Sony Ericsson T610 Reborn as the Remi!

No official details have been released, but this newly leaked Sony Ericsson phone, nicknamed the Remi, is widely rumoured to be the spiritual successor to the massively popular T610 phone from 2003.  This may be true of where it will sit in the range, but the styling certainly owes more to the K610 than to the, at the time, futuristic looks of the T.  Here’s what’s expected so far:

Sony Ericsson Remi Key Features

•    Based on the same platform used by the W890 handset, but with the Walkman software removed.
•    A 3.2 megapixel camera.
•    It will be 3G enabled with HSDPA support.
•    It’s W890 roots should indicate a 10mm thickness and lightweight frame

Removing the Walkman branding and shunning the CyberShot name sets the Remi up as a phone for people who want just that, a phone, without a need for any flashy additions.  The styling is strange; it looks good certainly, but there are many pictures on the Internet showing it next to the T610, which if you didn’t know which was which, you would probably pick it as the latest!

The Remi looks to include the part-aluminium frame and brushed finish which proved so popular before, and even though the 3.2 megapixel doesn’t have autofocus, it still takes decent images.  It’s nice to see the HSDPA support continue from the W890 and if it uses the same battery, standby and talktime should be superb.  August is being whispered by those in the know as the official announcement month.
